This is McLaren's all-new 2012 F1 car

Dubbed the MP4/27, World Champions Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton will be piloting the Mercedes powered car starting at the Australian Grand Prix in March.

FORMULA ONE TEAM Vodafone McLaren Mercedes have just unveiled their competitor for the 2012 Formula One World Championship.

Dubbed the MP4/27, World Champions Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton will be piloting the Mercedes powered car starting at the Australian Grand Prix in March.

Unlike the Caterham car we showed you last week, the McLaren looks fantastic as there is no awkward bump to be seen on the nosecone.

This is either because McLaren have devised a different aero solution or they are showing the new car with last year’s front wing. Teams frequently do this so they do not give away the entire design to their competitors before they all hit the track.

One quirky design element we noticed is a small outward flick on the back of the sidepods. We are not entirely certain of the purpose, but nothing is on an F1 car by chance.

When last year’s car started testing, it was dog slow. McLaren almost needed to entirely redo the car before the first race. We bet they are hoping that is not the case this year.

In our opinion, it looks fantastic. The big question is if those looks will translate to speed.

Take a look at the car below:
