Even those of us who hack their way around a golf course once a week have probably never played a shot like this.

LINKS GOLF IS hard, the list of high-profile pros who’ve missed the cut at this week’s British Open is proof of that.

However, even links golf shouldn’t be this hard.

Yesterday, on his way to a 9-over par 80, Thomas Aiken was faced with one of the trickiest lies we’ve ever seen; his ball hanging on to the edge of a deep bunker to the left of the 18th green.

Being a rightie, Aiken couldn’t properly address the ball without risking a tumble into the bunker and so took the unusual step of jumping into the sand and improvising on the putt.

Sadly for Aiken, he missed the putt and the cut, by just one shot. Ouch.
