THOMAS BARR PRODUCED a sensational finish to win the 400m hurdles in a season’s best time at a meeting in Lucerne on Monday.
The Waterford man clocked up an incredible time of 49.10 as he surged from second-last approaching the final stretch to claim the victory ahead of America’s Teejay Holmes (49.20) and Shawn Rowe of Jamaica (49.27) at the finishing line.
It was a superb performance from the 25-year-old in which he gradually moved up to fifth on the home straight before taking on the rest of the field in a blistering finish.
Barr’s previous best time this year was 49.40 which he ran in Samorin, Slovakia, last month.
His personal best time remains to be the 47.97 he ran in the 400m hurdles final at the 2016 Olympics where he finished in fourth place and narrowly missed out on a medal.
