HERE ARE THE good, the bad, and the unlikely football moves being talked about today…

Manchester United are planning to make a £70 million bid in the summer for Monaco playmaker Bernardo Silva, according to The Sun. However, United boss Jose Mourinho is likely to face stiff competition for his fellow countryman’s services, with Real Madrid also reportedly keen on the 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder.

The Mirror reports that Arsenal will have no interest in entertaining a potential £60 million bid from Juventus for Chile striker Alexis Sanchez.

Marseille will make a third bid for West Ham United’s Dimitri Payet, Sky Sports reports. The French club have already had an offer in the region of £20 million pound rejected for the midfielder, who’s keen on a move away from the London Stadium.

Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke has laughed off reports linking him with a move. The Belgian international, who has been linked with a transfer to the lucrative Chinese Super League, has insisted that he is “very happy” at Selhurst Park.

According to The Sun, Palace are set to make a £10 million bid for Tottenham Hotspur left-back Ben Davies, but that figure only meets half of Spurs’ valuation of the defender.

The Sun also claims that in-form Irish midfielder Conor Hourihane is keen on a move to Aston Villa. The Barnsley captain is out of contract this summer and has also attracted interest from Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City.

Villa have had an initial offer of £6 million rejected for Jordan Rhodes, with Middlesbrough holding out for £9 million for the striker according to The Daily Mail.

Retro Deal of the Day: Jan Åge Fjørtoft to Swindon Town, 1993

Having been a prolific goalscorer for Rapid Vienna for four seasons, Fjørtoft was signed for a club record of £500,000 by Swindon Town after they were promoted to the Premier League for the 1993-94 season.

The Norwegian international’s 12 league goals weren’t enough to keep Swindon in the top flight, however, and they were relegated after finishing bottom of the table.

Fjørtoft returned to the Premier League when he was bought by Middlesbrough for £1.3 million in March 1995. He went on to enjoy spells at Sheffield United and Barnsley before departing England for Eintracht Frankfurt in ’98.
