Uncaged: The Korean Zombie now wants gold after getting the better of The Diamond

We take a look at how everything stands following last week’s UFC on Fuel TV event.

CHANG SUNG JUNG has finally dispelled the myth that he was nothing more than a gimmicky fighter and proved his genuine top contender status with a spectacular win over Dustin Poirier last Tuesday night.

As the UFC hit mainstream TV’s in the USA once again, ‘The Korean Zombie’s’ performance was the pick of the bunch on a night of exciting fights that went mostly with script.
Jung wants winner of Aldo Vs Koch
Chan Sung Jung has proven that he is one of the most dynamic and watchable fighters in the UFC as he took part in another classic matchup that is already being touted as the fight of the tear.

In yet another absorbing fight, Jung displayed his ever improving stand-up, his elite-level ground game and his ability to take a shot in bout that will live long in the memory of MMA fans. The Korean didn’t have it all his own way, taking some heavy shots and being caught by numerous takedowns, but his resilience shone through and he was able to take the win via d’arce choke.

The fight was definitely one for the purists as both fighters fought a back-and-forth stand-up battle while on the ground it was a case of great technical transitions from Jung as ‘The Diamond’s’ great submission defence was finally unlocked after numerous attempts in the fourth round. Chang Sung now feels he is worthy of a title shot and is wants the winner of Jose Aldo and Eric Koch.

Timely birthday present for Lawlor
‘Filthy’ Tom Lawlor secured the perfect birthday present with a first round KO over Canadian vet Jason MacDonald and in doing so earned the knockout of the night bonus also. In a post-fight interview he admitted that he was struggling financially and the win and KO bonus came at a very important time for him. There were no signs of the immense pressure he was under as he entered the Octagon in joke birthday sunglasses and he quickly dispatched MacDonald to the canvas with a strong left hook just 50 seconds into the first round to earn his first victory since October 2010.

The jury remains out on Amir Sadollah as he struggled to a split decision victory over Jorge Lopez. Both fighters were unable to establish any degree of dominance as their respective clinch games cancelled each other out. Trading takedowns in the final round, it was difficult to see if either fighter had done enough to win it, but Sadollah connected with a couple of knees very late on in the bout that swung the decision his way.
Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone looked back to his best as he battered Jeremy Stephen’s legs with a sustained and repeated attack over three rounds. Cerrone’s range proved to be the sticking point for Stephens as he just couldn’t get inside and “The Cowboy” kept up the pace to the final bell to take a somewhat comfortable unanimous decision victory.
Igor Pokrajac and Yves Jabouin also picked up decision wins on the main card while Brad Tavares, Rafael dos Anjos and Cody McKenzie were the notable winners on the undercard.
