Forlan marks 100th cap with stunning winner against Nigeria

Uruguay kept their Confederations Cup hopes alive with a 2-1 win over the African champions.

URUGUAY STRIKER DIEGO Forlan celebrated his record 100th appearance by scoring the winner as the South Americans beat Nigeria 2-1 to keep their Confederations Cup hopes alive here Thursday.

Forlan lashed home a thunderous strike on 51 minutes to reignite Uruguay’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals from Group B following their opening defeat against world champions Spain on Sunday.

Uruguay had taken the lead through defender Diego Lugano in the 19th minute before Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel equalised for the Super Eagles with a rare goal on 37 minutes.
