Memory of 2009 looms large as United and Barca meet again

WATCH: Barcelona’s famous 2-0 triumph over Manchester United in the 2009 Champions League decider.

WHEN MANCHESTER UNITED and FC Barcelona come face-to-face this evening at Wembley, it will be the 11th time that the two European giants have squared off in European competition.

Most recently, the pair met in Rome’s Stadio Olimpico to decide the destination of the 2009 Champions League title, with goals from Samuel Eto’o and Lionel Messi giving the Catalans a 2-0 win.

Since then, things have changed and players have come and gone from both sides. But, in general, the story remains the same – Barcelona go into the game as favourites while United fans remain cautiously optimistic that their boys can pull off an upset.

Once the final whistle has been blown on this year’s final, there’ll be plenty of comparisons and contrasts drawn between the two meetings.

Just in case you’ve forgotten what happened last time out, here are the highlights.
