SOMETIMES TENNIS GETS rough, but never that rough. So when Nicolas Almagro accidently blasted a shot square onto the arm of Tomas Berdych, the Austrlian Open’s seventh seed took it a bit personally.
After a gruelling four set win, where Berdych won all of his three sets by way of a tie break, the Czech was roundly booed by the Melbourne audience after forgoing the traditional post match hand-shake with Almagro.
In case you have trouble hearing Berdych above the din, he said in his post match, on court, interview:
“I think when you have a point and somebody wants to hit you straight to your face I don’t see this as a nice moment. Especially when you have a whole court free and you are standing in the middle and he just hits you in the face.”
“That’s their opinion.” added Berdych as he shrugged his shoulders at the raucous disapproval surrounding him.

Berdych is unlikely to bother the Australian crowd for too much longer, he will be up against Rafael Nadal in the quarter finals.
