Heslin kicks 1-10 as Westmeath seal promotion while Mulligan leads Leitrim to victory

A much-changed Wexford side were on the end of a hiding from the Lake County.

WESTMEATH ARE MAKING an immediate return to the third tier after they easily accounted for a much-changed Wexford side in Innovate Wexford Park today.

Westmeath ran out 3-24 to 0-9 winners as star forward John Heslin continued his rich vein of form with an impressive tally of 1-10.

Wexford had already sealed promotion to Division 3 prior to this game, and the sides will meet again in the league final next month.

Westmeath led by 1-18 to 0-4 at the break, with Ger Egan the goalscorer from a penalty.

Elsewhere in the basement tier, Leitrim were 2-16 to 0-15 victors over London at Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada..

James Rooney and Emlyn Mulligan found the net during the first-half, but a spirited London side fought back during the second period with Liam Gavaghan and Kieran Hughes among the scorers.
