When Enda met Rory (and Clarkey)

Ireland’s latest major champions, Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke, were presented with lifetime memberships of the European Tour by Taoiseach Enda Kenny at the site of the Discover Ireland Irish Open today.

RORY MCILROY AND Darren Clarke again succeeded in emulating their fellow countryman Graeme McDowell today, with both receiving Honourary Life Membership of the European Tour at the site of this week’s Irish Open.

The presentation ceremony took place on Killarney Golf and Fishing Club’s first tee, just prior to the tournament’s pro-am event.

European Tour Chief Executive George O’Grady hailed the impact of the Ulster duo’s recent performances:

“It is a privilege to honour Rory and Darren with the highest award our Tour can bestow, and both fully deserve it after their marvellous achievements, which have given all of us at The European Tour such pride and pleasure.”

Taoiseach Enda Kenny, one of McIlroy’s playing partners for the day, was also in attendance and likely wasted no time in bombarding the Holywood native with some Olympics-minded propaganda.
