Ex Wicklow player celebrates Leinster SFC win at baseball game in Washington

Niall Gaffney has not forgotten his county roots.

YOU CAN TAKE the man out of Wicklow but you can’t take Wicklow out of the man.

This time last year Niall Gaffney was part of the Wicklow senior football panel and came on as a substitute during their championship games.

Work commitments saw the Bray Emmett’s clubman move to the USA last autumn as he was based in Philadelphia initially before recently moving to Washington DC.

Yesterday his sporting focus was on baseball as he saw the Washington Nationals defeat the Philadelphia Phillies.

But he kept in touch with home and this is how he reacted to the news from Aughrim that the Garden County had defeated Longford by 1-15 to 0-16 in their Leinster first round tie.
