Disappointment

It's been a bad night for Dundalk's Europa League conquerors

Nevertheless, there was better news for Genk — the team who defeated Cork City.

IT’S BEEN A night to forget for the sides who progressed at the expense of Dundalk in the group stages of the Europa League.

Zenit Saint Petersburg defeated Anderlecht 3-1 in Russia, but a last-minute goal from Isaac Kiese Thelin saw the visitors go through on away goals.

There was bad news too for Dutch side AZ Alkmaar. They were beaten 7-1 on the night by Lyon, with the score 11-2 to the French team on aggregate.

Nevertheless, there was better fortune for Genk — the team who defeated Cork City 3-1 on aggregate in the qualifying rounds.

A 67th minute goal from Alejandro Pozuelo saw them beat Romanian team Astra Giurgiu 1-0 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate, enabling them to progress to the last-16 in the process.
