A legend of the UFC set a new KO record on Saturday night

Dan Henderson rolled back the years in New Orleans.

HIS BEST YEARS might be behind him, but Dan Henderson showed over the weekend that he’s still got something to offer.

The 44-year-old former Strikeforce champion took just 28 seconds to finish Tim Boetsch in the main event at UFC Fight Night 68 in New Orleans. In the process, Henderson overtook Randy Couture as the oldest man in UFC history to record a KO victory.

Entering the bout having lost five of his previous six outings, it was Henderson’s first win since he overcame Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua in March of last year.

Henderson, who debuted for the UFC way back in 1998, showed the kind of power in his right hand that saw him come to be regarded as a legend of the Pride and Strikeforce promotions, where he clocked up wins over the likes of Renzo Gracie, Murilo Bustamante, Vitor Belfort, Wanderlei Silva and Fedor Emelianenko.

One of Henderson’s most notable UFC victories happened in Dublin in 2009, when he emerged on the right side of a split-decision following a three-round battle with Rich Franklin.

Saturday night’s event in New Orleans also saw important wins for Ben Rothwell, who strengthened his claims for a heavyweight title shot by submitting Matt Mitrione inside the opening round, and Dustin Poirier, who picked up his second victory as a lightweight since losing to Conor McGregor last September.
