Decision time

If you think David de Gea's leaving Manchester, today probably did little to change your mind

There were a few hints that the goalkeeper might be on his way to Real Madrid.

THE PREMIER LEAGUE season is one week away from ending and while the lack of actual football matches will be a tough adjustment, at least we can descend into the madcap summer period of transfers and their slutty cousin, transfer rumours.

Manchester United had a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal earlier, but fans of the team can be happy that Louis van Gaal will reportedly be given another large budget to conduct business this summer.

However, while adding to the squad will be the Dutchman’s main priority, he will also want to keep what he already has – and that might not be so easy.

One of Spain’s biggest papers said yesterday that David de Gea’s transfer to Real Madrid is a done deal, while the star goalkeeper’s behaviour before today’s game alarmed some United loyalists.

Sometimes, a wave can just be a wave, but van Gaal admitted afterwards that de Gea is considering whether to leave the club.

“David de Gea shall not leave us so easily,” van Gaal said to Sky after today’s game.

“We have a great club and he wants to participate. He is Spanish. His girlfriend is Spanish. He can go to go to another great club so it is difficult to decide.”

Would United fans be okay with de Gea leaving if it meant Gareth Bale joined the team? That would be an interesting swap but if Real just offer United a few Scarface-esque suitcases full of cash, then LVG can just buy pretty much any replacement in the world.

We know Tom is his son, but Paul Ince’s opinion on his ability is still completely daft
