Gerrard holds talks with Klopp ahead of potential Liverpool training return

The former Liverpool captain visited the club’s training ground this afternoon.

JURGEN KLOPP REVEALED Steven Gerrard has been back at Melwood, but the former Liverpool captain has not trained with the squad yet.

The 35-year-old visited the complex in West Derby on Wednesday afternoon to catch up with his old teammates and converse with the manager.

The talk largely centered around Klopp’s tenure thus far, as well as the midfielder’s experiences in America. Gerrard is on a break following the end of LA Galaxy’s season and has not yet laced up for one of the German’s “full-throttle” workouts.

“No, he is on holiday and that’s good,” responded the 48-year-old when asked if the local legend was already exercising at his previous domain.

“He’s not had that much holiday since he left Liverpool and went to LA, so now he is enjoying his holiday.”

While the Reds boss is happy to have Gerrard using Melwood as his base to stay in shape, there is no immediate long-term plan to get him back on Merseyside permanently.

Klopp has already stressed his sole focus is on the club’s season and as such, he cannot afford any distractions.

However, the two-time Bundesliga winner revelled in the former England skipper’s company.

“It was good. He is a really, really good person. I liked it and enjoyed the time we spent together,” said the manager.

“We spoke about many things, but nothing is happening. He doesn’t want to play next week, he doesn’t want to train next week – he is on holiday. That’s what I can say.

“If he does want to train [here] then of course he can, there’s no question. He can use Melwood as he did for about 500 years, so there’s no problem!

“Then he will go back to LA and train and play there.”
