Liverpool confirm departure of Karius to Besiktas on two-year loan

The goalkeeper lost his place to new arrival Alisson and will now spend the next two seasons in Turkey.

LIVERPOOL GOALKEEPER LORIUS Karius is on his way to Turkey after agreeing a loan switch to Besiktas for the next two seasons.

Karius muscled his way ahead of Simon Mignolet in the pecking order during the last campaign, and was Jurgen Klopp’s first choice as the Reds battled to the Champions League final.

But two big mistakes against Real Madrid drew unwanted attention to the German, who also suffered concussion during that game.

Klopp reacted in the summer by signing Roma’s Alisson, who briefly became the most expensive goalkeeper in the world before Kepa’s arrival at Chelsea.

Not content to sit on the bench, Karius will try his luck at Besiktas, who have started the new Super Lig campaign with back-to-back league victories.

The 25-year-old has made 49 appearances for the Reds since joining the club from Mainz in 2016 and was on the bench for Liverpool’s opening Premier League fixture of the season against West Ham United.

“Everybody at LFC wishes Loris the best of luck during his loan spell,” a short Liverpool statement read.
