However, Paul Hegarty is believed to be the front-runner for the permanent position.

FORMER MAN UNITED player Andrei Kanchelskis is thought to be among the candidates to take over the vacant Derry City job, with several media outlets reporting the news today.

Following an impressive run as caretaker, Paul Hegarty is believed to be the front-runner for the permanent position, but the 46-year-old ex-winger is also understood to be interested in the job.

Kanchelskis, who spent four years at Man United along with stints at Everton, Fiorentina and Rangers among others last managed FC Jurmala in Latvia, but stepped down after just four months in charge last year.

A spokesman for the club told The42 that “a Russian agent based in Dublin made contact with the club over the last couple of days expressing interest in the position on behalf of his client, Andrei Kanchelskis”.
