Antrim's Niall McKeever released by Aussie rules club

McKeever’s four years with Brisbane were an “incredible experience with some amazing people.”

FORMER ANTRIM FOOTBALLER Niall McKeever has been delisted by Aussie Rules club Brisbane Lions.

McKeever moved to Australia and joined the Lions in 2009, not long after helping the Saffrons to their first Ulster football final in 39 years.

He made his senior AFL debut in 2011 but never managed to hold down a regular place in the squad and spent the majority of his time in the reserves.

In total he played 22 games in his four seasons, scoring two goals. His final contribution was in the NEAFL Grand Final where the Lions’ Reserves beat Aspley last weekend.

“Incredible experience with some amazing people over the last four years,” McKeever, 24, tweeted. “Wish [everyone] involved in the @brisbanelions every success in the future.”
