Pierce’s Wizards and the Atlanta Hawks met again on Monday night for Game 4, and Washington trailed by 104-101 with 9.5 seconds on the clock.

The stage was set for more heroics. Pierce had a wide-open look and all the time in the world to land the three-pointer that would have levelled the game but slightly overcooked his jumper and watched as it came back off the rim.

In Monday night’s other game, Steph Curry scored 33 points as the Golden State Warriors levelled their series with the Memphis Grizzlies at 2-2.
