5 talking points ahead of today's El Clasico

Can Messi break his scoring duck or will Isco keep him quiet?

1. Will Messi score against Real Madrid for the first time since 2014?

While the Argentinian attacker has 21 goals in this fixture, he hasn’t found the net against Real Madrid in their past five encounters.

When he does score, the majority of his goals have come at the Bernabeu so he’s up against it in the Camp Nou today.

If you do fancy the 29-year-old to score, he’s 5/6 anytime.

2. Is a 2-1 result inevitable?

There’s a real chance that the result today will be 2-1 to one of the teams.

Why? Well five of the last ten La Liga fixtures have finished that way and 19 of the 172 league match-ups have had the same result making it the most frequent outcome in El Clasico history.

If you think Barca will come out 2-1 winners it’s 8/1 while the same result for Real is available at 12/1.

3. Will Isco take his chance to shine?

With Casemiro having a late fitness test, it’s likely that Isco will be tasked with keeping Messi quiet today.

It’s a chance for the former Valencia and Malaga man to continue his fine form for Los Blancos which has seen him score twice and add two assists in his last 10 games.

Add in rumours that Barca are considering an audacious bid for Isco in the summer and he has every reason to impress today. If he does Real (3/1) will almost certainly win.

4. Why does everyone hate Busquets all of a sudden?

With Barca sitting six points behind their bitter rivals in the title race, much of the focus has been on the performances of Sergio Busquets.

“I am very happy with him. My players aren’t machines, they can have ups and downs,” Luis Enrique said while defending his midfielder recently.

Goals have never been a major part of his role in knitting together defence and attack, but can he impose himself sufficiently to keep Madrid’s rampant forwards scoreless (5/2)?

5. Can Barca end Real Madrid’s 32-game unbeaten run?

Barcelona have scored in each of their last 21 El Clasicos but will they have enough to get the better of a Real team with a chance to open up a big gap at the top of the league?

The home side do have history in their favour as Los Merengues have amassed just 20 wins in 86 attempts at the Camp Nou.

If you think Barcelona can get the job done today, they are 5/6.

Legislation means El Clasico won’t be televised live in the Ireland but fear not – you can watch it all on Betfair Live Video, free of charge! The only requirement is that you have a funded account.
