Ireland U17 international on the bench for Preston tonight

Adam O’Reilly could make his senior debut against Morecambe FC in the League Cup.

IRELAND U17 INTERNATIONAL Adam O’Reilly could be set for his senior debut with Preston tonight.

The 17-year-old midfielder, who was part of the Irish side that were unfortunate to lose to the Netherlands on penalties at the U17 Euros last May, has been named on the bench for his side’s League Cup encounter against Morecambe.

The youngster only joined the Championship team from Cork club Ringmahon Rangers last summer, and has made significant strides since then, as he was named ‘Scholar of the Year’ for 2018.

It is not the first time O’Reilly has made Preston’s bench, having also been among the substitutes for their match against Wolves last February.

Elsewhere in the League Cup tonight, another promising Irish youngster, Jake Doyle-Hayes, starts for Aston Villa.

The 19-year-old, who also made two appearances in the competition last season, is part of an all-Irish central midfield, with Glenn Whelan and Conor Hourihane also featuring for Steve Bruce’s side.
