ALEX FERGUSON TODAY confirmed that Wayne Rooney has asked for a transfer.
In an interview with Sky Sports after his last game in charge at Old Trafford, Ferguson confirmed earlier rumours that the England striker wanted to leave Manchester United.
When asked why Rooney hadn’t featured in today’s squad, Ferguson replied:
“I don’t think Wayne was keen to play. He has asked for a transfer.”
Ferguson continued:
“We are not going to let him go.“I think he’s just frustrated at not playing as much as he’d like in the last couple of weeks.”
There had been reports over the weekend of a training ground bust-up involving Wayne Rooney and rumours that both Chelsea and PSG were possible destinations.
In an unusually open and honest interview, Ferguson also revealed that he made up his mind to retire at Christmas to spend more time with his wife and family and didn’t know where the leak of the news came from.
“This club is a sieve,” he said.
