Welcome along on a busy day of action in the Allianz Leagues. There’s big games in Division 1 of the football league at 7pm with Dublin facing Tyrone in Croke Park, Mayo welcoming Kildare to Castlebar while Kerry entertain Down in Tralee.

Division 1 FL: Cork 0-11 Donegal 0-7: The action is already underway in Páirc Uí Rinn as they enter the closing stages with Cork leading the way. The Rebels had trailed by 0-5 to 0-3 at half-time but some outstanding second-half points by Aidan Walsh, Paudie Kissane and Liam Shorten have propelled them into the lead.

But Cork’s performance has been overshadowed by attacker Colm O’Neill being stretchered off with a suspected cruciate ligament injury in the first-half. Last year’s Allstar winner has previously suffered the long-term injury twice.

FT: Division 1B HL: Limerick 1-21 Dublin 1-15: Significant win for John Allen’s Limerick team in Croke Park tonight. They trailed by 0-8 to 0-7 at half-time and Dublin got a boost after the break when Conor McCormack found the net. But after attacking Paul Ryan was sent-off for Dublin, it was Limerick who took over with a goal by Graeme Mulcahy and some excellent points by Declan Hannon helping them triumph.

FT: Division 3 FL: Meath 1-17 Sligo 2-12: Great comeback victory for the Royals in Páirc Tailteann in Navan. Meath trailed by 2-9 to 1-4 at the break with goals from Shane McManus and Adrian Marren for Sligo in the opening-half while Stephen Bray raised Meath’s green flag. But Meath kicked on in the second-half with Mickey Newman and Ciaran Lenehan inspiring them to victory.

FT: Division 1 FL: Cork 0-12 Donegal 0-10: A fine victory for Conor Counihan’s side in Páirc Uí Rinn as they came back from trailing by 0-5 to 0-3 at the interval to secure success. The only negative aspect of their win is the loss of Colm O’Neill in the first-half with a suspected torn cruciate ligament.

Just a quick recap of some of today’s earlier games.

  • Division 3 FL: Conor McManus struck 2-7 as Monaghan stayed top of the table after a 5-13 to 3-10 win over Wicklow in Clones. A late Anto Healy goal for Antrim couldn’t prevent them from falling to Roscommon in Casement Park by 0-11 to 1-6.
  • Division 4 FL: Limerick suffered their first defeat of the campaign in the Gaelic Grounds this afternoon by 0-15 to 0-9 against Tipperary, who had Barry Grogan in great scoring form. The win puts Tipperary back in the shake-up for promotion while they are joined on six points by Offaly, who were 2-11 to 1-11 victors over Carlow today in Tullamore. The final game in this division saw Leitrim comfortably defeat Waterford in Carrick-on-Shannon by 3-14 to 3-7.
  • Division 1B HL: Wexford were comfortable victors by 2-21 to 1-12 against Antrim in Wexford Park. David Redmond and Rory Jacob struck the goals for Wexford.

Here’s a recap on some of the main talking points from today’s action.

  • Division 1 FL: Dublin fell to their first defeat of the campaign against Tyrone and are now joined at the top of the table by Mickey Harte’s side and Kildare, who enjoyed a rewarding trip to Castlebar to face Mayo. At the bottom end of the table Mayo, Down and Kerry all have only two points to show but for the Kingdom, it was a vital night as they got off the mark. A big win for Cork as well against Donegal but their success was marred by the suspected cruciate ligament injury suffered by Colm O’Neill.
  • Division 2 FL: Derry go top of the table after triumphing against a Longford team that now look on course for relegation after a fifth straight loss. Vital wins for Laois and Louth to ensure they start to move into the top half of the table.
  • Division 3 FL: Monaghan remain top of the table after thumping Wicklow today while Meath, Fermanagh and Roscommon also claimed victories.
  • Division 4 FL: Tipperary are back in the hunt for promotion after handing Limerick their first defeat of the campaign today. Offaly are also edging towards the top after beating Carlow this afternoon while Leitrim overturned Waterford.

In hurling today:

  • Clare went top of Division 1A after producing a superb second-half display to oust Cork in Páirc Uí Rinn.
  • In Division 1B, Limerick stay unbeaten after they handed Dublin their first loss of the season while Wexford claimed the honours against Antrim.

That’s all from us tonight, thanks for joining us. We’ll be back tomorrow with coverage of the AIB All-Ireland senior club finals.
