The Alternative Power Rankings: Probably 7 of the best Premier League moments this month

We choose some of our favourite bits from the English top flight in May.

THEY DID IT. They actually went and did it. Leicester City are the 2015/16 Premier League champions and they claimed the title in some style too, finishing with 10 points to spare.

A rollercoaster final few games means the Foxes will be joined in the Champions League by Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City, while Manchester United will have to settle for the Europa League — unless they can conjure up a remarkable 19-goal win when their game against Bournemouth is rescheduled.

At the other end of the table, the trap door fell open for Aston Villa, Norwich and Newcastle; Sunderland’s dramatic win over Chelsea proving to be a season saver for the Black Cats.

Here are some of our favourite moments from the final month of the season…

7. With friends like these

As we’ll see later, live TV leaves you with very little wriggle room when things go wrong.

Spare a thought then for Jamie Redknapp who was on Sky Sports to chat about the end of the Premier League season before his mates from A League Of Their Own decided to join him on set.

6. Pull the other one, Louis

Social media and former players may have been up in arms about Marouane Fellaini’s off the ball antics during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City, but manager Louis van Gaal wanted to focus on Robert Huth.

Or at least we think he did. In a bizarre post-match interview, the former Holland manager offered to pull the reporter’s hair to prove how painful it was.

He then suggested that hair-pulling was only acceptable in the bedroom.

5. He’s bang average

By now you’ve probably seen the Premier League’s best XI and even the worst XI but who is so middle of the road they should have cat’s eyes?

Well, thankfully, that’s what the internet was invented for.

A reddit user has worked out the average rating for each position and found the player who most closely matched that figure. And it’s not a bad line-up:

If you can’t see it, the team is:

GK – Adrian (West Ham)

RB – Glen Johnson (Stoke City)
CB – Federico Fernández (Swansea)
CB – Gareth McAuley (West Brom)
LB – Alberto Moreno (Liverpool)

CDM – Gareth Barry (Everton)
CDM – Victor Wanyama (Southampton)

RM – Aaron Lennon (Everton)
CAM – Adam Lallana (Liverpool)
LM – Max Gradel (Bournemouth)

ST – Andy Carroll (West Ham)

4. Unbelievable Jeff!

Last month, we brought you Liverpool players doing their best (or maybe worst) impressions of famous movie quotes.

It appears that their ‘skills’ don’t just stop in Hollywood as Alberto Moreno showed when he was asked to do an impression of Chris Kamara.

It’s… well it’s this:

3. Earning his Spurs

“To err is human, to give Spurs the title, unforgivable”

We know that’s not how the famous Alexander Pope quote actually goes but it was certainly applicable for ESPN when Matt Barrie claimed it was Tottenham, not Leicester that won the Premier League.

We all make mistakes, but most of us don’t have YouTube to remind us of them for the rest of time.

2. A crisp finish

Gary Lineker has always worn his love of the club on his sleeve but the Match of the Day presenter’s promise to host the flagship football show in his underwear excites and terrifies us in equal measure.

One person who was looking forward to it, however, was Leicester defender Christian Fuchs.

He had this message for the former England striker:

1. Andrea Bocelli sings Nessun Dorma at Leicester

This could have been a disaster, instead, it turned out to be the perfect climax to a fairytale season for the new Premier League champions:
