Arsenal interested in signing Torres

Wenger is hungry to reverse the trend of recent seasons and bring a superstar to the Emirates.

ARSENAL MANAGER Arsene Wenger has reportedly expressed his interest in bringing Fernando Torres to the Emirates Stadium.

Not one to splash cash about freely, Wenger wants the much-criticised Spaniard to play up front for the Gunners, and new Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is said to be happy to let the former Liverpool and Atletico Madrid man go.

After letting names such as Thierry Henry and more recently Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie depart, Wenger is hungry to reverse the trend and bring a superstar to the fold.

Torres, too, might be keen to move, as he may not figure in Mourinho’s plans — with the Spaniard set to learn if he is this week once he returns to club duty after representing Spain at the Confederations Cup. Along with Torres, Arsenal are also in the hunt for Real Madrid goalscorer Gonzalo Higuain. If Arsenal land both, it would be a huge coup for the club’s ambitions.
