6 key games in Bayern Munich's march to claiming yet another Bundesliga title

Pep Guardiola’s side were crowned champions last night.

1. September 21st, 2013: Schalke 0-4 Bayern Munich

This looked like an early season test for Bayern as they travelled to face a side that had finished fourth in the 2012-13 campaign. But they swept Schalke aside with a powerful performance.

Bastian Schweinsteiger set them on their way by heading in a corner in the first-half before Mario Mandzukic doubled their lead shortly after. Late goals from Franck Ribery and Claudio Pizarro clinched a resounding victory.

3. November 23rd, 2013: Borussia Dortmund 0-3 Bayern Munich

Bayern travelled to the home of the side who they had beaten in the Champions League final last season while Jurgen Klopp’s team were perceived as their biggest challengers for the Bundesliga title.

The game was scoreless with 25 minutes left before Dortmund old boy Mario Gotze broke the deadlock. Further goals from Arjen Robben and Muller ensured Guardiola’s side issued a powerful statement of intent.

One of those matches where Bayern Munich flexed their muscle and unleashed the full force of their attacking strength. The winners were ahead 3-0 at the break against Werder Bremen after an own goal from Assani Lukimya along with striker from Daniel Van Buyten and Ribery.

In the second-half they piled on the misery for their hosts with goals from Mandzukic, Muller, Ribery and Gotze.

5. January 29th, 2014: Stuttgart 1-2 Bayern Munich

Bayern have only failed to win two Bundesliga games this season, 1-1 draws away to Bayer Leverkusen and Freiburg, but in late January it looked for long stages like they were set for their first defeat of the campaign.

Ibisevic gave Stuttgart a first-half lead that they did not relinquish until Pizarro equalised in the 76th minute. The winner was a pretty special effort in the 93rd minute from Thiago Alcantara.

6. March 1st, 2014: Bayern Munich 5-1 Schalke

Playing a team who were fourth in the Bundesliga table means Bayern could legitimately have expected a tough task here. Instead they came out and swept Schalke aside with four goals inside the opening 28 minutes – David Alaba, Mandzukic and Robben with a brace. The Dutch international completed his hat-trick in the second-half to seal victory.
