Sports Film of the Week: Bicycle Dreams

Here’s another one for you to add to the “must-see” pile.

Title: Bicycle Dreams

Released: 2009

Director: Stephen Auerbach

Plot: The Race Across America is a 3000-mile slogfest from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic, widely acknowledged as the world’s most challenging sporting event. Riding over 300 miles a day on minimal sleep, the best endurance riders will finish in 10 days.

But this isn’t about winning and losing. A lot of the time, it’s about survival.

What the critics said: ”Bicycle Dreams is a beautiful film that probes deeply into the sport’s heart of darkness, offering an inspiring glimpse at the high price of glory.” (USA Today)

Random YouTube comment: “I heard about this on Radiolab. The bicyclists’ necks give out and have to duck tape their necks to their backs so that they can stare straight ahead. INTENSE! These guys are warriors.” (Warrenjeezy)
