The mystery of Billy Hurley III's missing father has been solved

Almost two weeks after disappearing, Billy Hurley III’s father has been found safe.

BILLY HURLEY III’s father has been located safe in Texas nearly two weeks after disappearing from his Virginia home.

Willard “Bill” Hurley was recognised by a person who had seen media reports about him, the Leesburg Police Department said in a Facebook post.

His son is playing this week at the Quicken Loans National outside Washington, D.C.

“We couldn’t have done this, he wouldn’t have been found without the help of the PGA Tour and the Golf Channel and the greater golf media and all the articles, all the TV spots that were run,” Billy Hurley said.

“Thank you so much for helping us find my father.

“We don’t know what comes next at this point. We just wanted to say thank you very much for helping us find him, I mean the public, the law enforcement, all the media throughout the country.

“My family and I are incredibly appreciative for helping us be able to find him.”

In a pre-tournament press conference on Tuesday, Billy Hurley announced his father had gone missing 19 July after taking some clothes and money and driving away in his truck.

The Hurley family eventually filed a missing-person report and Billy went public with the story in hope someone would recognise his father.

He also said he decided not to withdraw from this week’s tournament just in case his father decided to check his score or tee time online and “he realises that it’s just time to come home”.

Friday, he got his wish. According to police, Billy Hurley’s father told a detective he is “fine physically and is simply travelling”.
