‘Business-like’ Giants ready for World Series

“2010 it was a bunch of frat guys … it seemed like it was a college atmosphere,” San Francisco first baseman Aubrey Huff says ahead of tonight’s opener.

THE SAN FRANCISCO Giants are hopeful of learning from their successful 2010 MLB World Series campaign

The Giants beat the Texas Rangers 4-1 in 2010 and are hopeful of doing the same in the best-of-seven-match World Series against the Detroit Tigers this year.

And ahead of tonight’s opener in front of their home fans at AT&T Park, San Francisco first baseman Aubrey Huff says his team are more ‘business-like’ this time around.

“2010 it was a bunch of frat guys … it seemed like it was a college atmosphere,” Huff said. ”This year’s more of a business-like type team, pretty serious. That’s really the only difference I can tell. Both have incredible heart though, both teams.”

Giants catcher Buster Posey loved the atmosphere in San Francisco during the National League Championship Series as they came from 3-1 down to beat the Arizona Cardinals 4-3. And he believes the atmosphere generated by San Francisco’s fanatical supporters will be a major advantage in game one.

“If it (the atmosphere) gets much better than these last two games here (against Arizona) then I’m excited to see it,” Posey said. ”They were rocking from pitch one the past two nights and have a deep appreciation for the passion this city has for the Giants and I’m looking forward to playing.”

Detroit pitcher Justin Verlander has won his past seven starts and the Tigers are in brilliant form. A 4-0 win over the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series has boosted their confidence and Verlander says he and his fellow pitchers are confident about their form.

“I don’t think myself nor the Tigers take anything for granted no matter who is on the mound,” Verlander said. ”I think we are more than confident and deservedly so in all four of our guys starting games.

“I think that, not just myself, but the other three guys have proven over the last couple of series is that if they can do it anybody can do it.”
