Buy Richard Dunne's famous No 5 shirt from the Russia game

Lowest unique bid will win the Irish defender’s make-and-do jersey from his epic performance in the recent away draw.

FANCY OWNING AN artefact from Irish football history? Here’s your chance.

The FAI have launched an auction for fans to bid on Richard Dunne’s famous, home-made number five jersey worn during Ireland’s scoreless draw in Moscow against Russia last month.

Dunne cut his face on a piece of metal grating on the running track around the pitch in the Luzhniki Stadium during his memorable man-of-the-match performance.

He was compelled to change his blood-stained shirt but when the ref objected to a player being on the pitch without a number on his back, goalkeeper coach, Alan Kelly scratch ‘five’ on Dunne’s jersey with a permanent marker.

With proceeds going to Barretstown and The National Children’s Hospital, Tallaght the ‘lowest unique bid’ auction is run through the FAI’s Facebook page.

The auction, which costs €5 to enter, will run until Thursday, 20 October, with the lucky winner being announced the following day.
