THE FATHER OF Argentine footballer Carlos Tevez was released this evening, eight hours after being kidnapped in the outskirts of Buenos Aires.

Police sources cited in local reports said the kidnappers had demanded money from the family for the release of Segundo Tevez and TV station C5N report that the ransom figure of $400,000 has been met.

“The family is concerned. We have to wait now to see how events unfold,” Gustavo Galasso, a lawyer for the family, told reporters earlier today.

The victim was reported to have been intercepted this morning while driving his car in an area in the outskirts of Buenos Aires. The car was found abandoned several hours later and Tevez’ sister-in-law reported the man missing.

Segundo Tevez is married to Tevez’s mother. The football player was a child when his biological father died.
