LIVERPOOL SQUANDERED A 3-0 lead away to Crystal Palace last night to leave title rivals Manchester City needing just four points to clinch top spot.
Having fallen behind to goals from Joe Allen, Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, Palace struck back through Irish defender Damien Delany’s deflected effort. The Reds continued to press up-field and only withdrew into their defensive shell when Dwight Gayle scored the first of his two goals.
The match ended 3-3 and Sky Sports’ pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville had plenty to say after the final whistle. Neville questioned the Liverpool centre-back pairing of Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho. “You knew [the equaliser] was coming after Palace got that second goal because Liverpool didn’t have the capabilities and the leadership, in their back players, to get out.”
Carragher also took issue with the central defensive pair, labelling the, “weak mentally” and adding that their partnership has contributed to just one clean sheet in 17 games together.
