Cavan and Kildare set for Sunday week showdown

The dates, times and venues are out for the second round of this year’s All-Ireland SFC qualifiers

THE EAGERLY-AWAITED round two football qualifier between Cavan and Kildare is set to take place on Sunday July 15th at 3pm in Kingspan Breffni Park. The decision to play the match on a Sunday means there will be no live television coverage of the match given that both TV3 and RTÉ are already committed to broadcasting provincial finals that afternoon.

The fixture details for the eight round two games were announced earlier by the GAA with five games set to take place over the course of the Saturday and three games on the Sunday afternoon. Roscommon and Tyrone will start the ball rolling on the Saturday when they meet in Dr Hyde Park at 2pm.

Saturday July 14th
All-Ireland SFC qualifiers round two:
Roscommon v Tyrone, Dr Hyde Park, 2pm; Antrim v Galway, Casement Park, 3pm; Tipperary v Wexford, Semple Stadium, 5pm; Leitrim v Wicklow, Carrick-on-Shannon, 6pm; Longford v Limerick, Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, 7pm.

Last year’s All-Ireland finalists Kerry will be in action on the Sunday when they face Westmeath.

Sunday July 15th
All-Ireland SFC qualifiers round two:
Cavan v Kildare, Kingspan Breffni Park, 3pm; Westmeath v Kerry, Cusack Park, Mullingar, 3pm; Laois v Monaghan, O’Moore Park, Portlaoise, 3pm.

GAA officials have also finalised the details for this weekend’s programme of games with two All-Ireland hurling qualifiers to be played on Saturday and three provincial finals scheduled for Sunday. On Saturday evening the phase two encounters between Cork and Offaly, and Clare and Dublin take place.

Saturday July 7th
All-Ireland SHC qualifier phase two: Clare v Dublin, Cusack Park, Ennis, 7pm, (D Kirwan, Cork), (TV3 Live); Cork v Offaly, Páirc Uí Chaoimh, 7pm, (M Wadding, Waterford).

Then on Sunday afternoon the first championship silverware of the summer will be handed out in Munster, Ulster and Leinster.

Sunday July 8th
Munster SFC final: Cork v Clare, Gaelic Grounds, 2pm, (E Kinsella, Laois), (TV3 Live).
Ulster SHC final: Antrim v Derry, Casement Park, 3.30pm, (T Carroll, Offaly).
Leinster SHC final: Galway v Kilkenny, Croke Park, 4pm, (J McGrath, Westmeath).

There is also action in the Electric Ireland minor championships this weekend in Leinster and Ulster.

Saturday July 7th
Leinster MFC semi-final: Westmeath v Meath, Mullingar, 7pm, (S Johnson, Louth).
Sunday July 8th
Ulster MHC final:
Antrim v Down, Casement Park, 1.30pm, (E Hassan, Derry).
Leinster MHC final: Dublin v Wexford, Croke Park, 2pm, (G Quilty, Kilkenny).

Finally it has also been confirmed that Meath referee Cormac Reilly will officiate for Sunday week’s Connacht SFC final between Mayo and Sligo in Dr Hyde Park at 2pm while Cork whistler Cathal McAllister is in charge for the Munster SHC decider on the same day between Tipperary and Waterford in Páirc Uí Chaoimh at 4pm.
