9 senior panellists in Clare U21 side to face Waterford

The Banner face the Deise in Walsh Park tonight.

REIGNING ALL-IRELAND champions Clare have named a side packed with senior panellists for tonight’s Bord Gáis Energy Munster U21 hurling semi-final against Waterford.

The teams meet in Walsh Park at 7.30pm with Clare hoping to repeat the thumping they gave Waterford at this stage of the competition last year by 2-22 to 0-9.

And the Banner are able to call on several current members of Davy Fitzgerald’s Clare senior squad.

Full-back David McInerney, midfield duo Colm Galvin and Tony Kelly, wing-forward Peter Duggan, centre-forward Padraic Collins and corner-forward Shane O’Donnell all started in Clare’s All-Ireland senior qualifier win over Wexford last Saturday.

While wing-back Seadna Morey and wing-forward Aaron Cunningham both came on as substitutes in that game for Fitzgerald’s side. Corner-back Paul Flanagan was an unused substitute in that game for the Clare seniors.

In all Clare are able to call on 9 of last year’s All-Ireland U21 winning side in Ronan Taaffe, Flanagan, McInerney, Morey, Galvin, Kelly, Collins, Cunningham and Cathal O’Connell as they all started in last September’s final win over Kilkenny.

Duggan came on as a substitute in that victory in the decider in Semple Stadium in Thurles.

CLARE: Ronan Taaffe (Tubber); Paul Flanagan (Ballyea), David McInerney (Tulla), Jack Browne (Ballyea); Seadna Morey (Sixmilebridge), Alan O’Neill (St. Josephs Doora Barefield), Stephen O’Halloran (Clarecastle); Colm Galvin (Clonlara), Tony Kelly (Ballyea); Peter Duggan (Clooney Quin), Padraic Collins (Cratloe), Aaron Cunningham (Wolfetones); Shane O’Donnell (Eire Og), Daire Keane (Kilmaley), Cathal O’Connell (Clonlara).
