Cork City sign Tadhg Purcell on a short-term deal

The former UCD and Shamrock Rovers striker arrives at the Leeside club on loan from Northampton Town.

CORK CITY HAVE bolstered their striking department with the arrival of Tadhg Purcell from Northampton Town.

The 27-year-old returns to League of Ireland football after departing from Shamrock Rovers in 2009 for Darlington.

The Dubliner enjoyed a successful spell there before making the switch to the Cobblers five months later and was loaned backed to his former club after a lengthy injury. He has one goal in five League Two appearances this season and joins Tommy Dunne’s side until June.

Speaking to CorkCityFC.net, Dunne said of the signing: “Tadhg will be coming in next week. Obviously we were looking to add another striker to the squad as we were a bit thin up top.

“He is a player who is experienced in the League of Ireland and has also played cross channel as well. He is a good finisher and he gives us another option up front, so I am pleased to have signed him.”

The player himself tweeted:
