England star arrested on suspicion of drink-driving hours after Baa-Baas win

Danny Cipriani in trouble as Stuart Lancaster prepares to name his England World Cup squad.

ENGLAND RUGBY STAR Danny Cipriani was arrested “on suspicion of drink-driving” after he was involved in a 5am car accident.

London’s Metropolitan Police revealed that a 27-year-old man was arrested, interviewed, and later released on bail. Cipriani’s agent Oliver Ward confirmed that the Sale Sharks out-half was involved in the incident on Monday morning.

“There was a minor road traffic collision last night and Danny co-operated with police by going to the station,” Ward told the Daily Mail.

“He has not been charged with any offence and is on unrestricted bail except to return to the station when the police have investigated what happened.”

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, with Cipriani’s car colliding with another vehicle.

On Sunday, Cipriani had slotted all 11 goal-attempts for an England XV in a practice match against the Barbarians, while also scoring two tries.

That performance had put Cipriani well on the way to securing a spot in England’s World Cup squad but his latest disciplinary off-field issue could undo all his previous work on the field.

In 2008, Cipriani was cut from England’s squad two days before he was set to make his international debut after being photographed leaving a nightclub after midnight.

In 2013, he was struck by a bus while taking part in a pub crawl in Leeds.
