Darren O'Neill into next round of Olympic qualifiers

The Kilkenny heavyweight needs to win to book a spt in Rio.

IRELAND’S DARREN O’NEILL has advanced to the next round of the Olympic qualifiers in Baku this evening.

The Kilkenny heavyweight made light work of his last-32 bout with Sweden’s Mustafa El Molla in Azerbaijan.

O’Neill, who needs to win the qualifier competition to earn a spot at this summer’s Olympic Games, dominated all three rounds to claim a unanimous decision victory.

His last-16 bout will take place on Monday when Michael O’Reilly’s (middleweight) qualification attempt begins.

Dean Walsh (light-welterweight) and Dean Gardiner (super-heavyweight) will be in action tomorrow.
