This superb volley from Ireland's David Meyler helped lift Hull into the play-off spots

IRISH INTERNATIONAL DAVID Meyler helped Hull secure a 3-0 win over Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich in the Championship last night.

Meyler scored the third goal with a superb volley, lifting Steve Bruce’s side into the play-off spots in the process.

Irish players Jonathan Douglas and Daryl Murphy both started for Ipswich while former Shelbourne youngster Adam McDonnell was on the bench.

Derrick Williams started and Simon Cox came off the bench, as Bristol City lost 2-1 to Brighton, who consolidated their place at the top of the table as a result.

Joe Mason featured in Cardiff’s 1-0 win over Middlesbrough, while Anthony Pilkington was an unused sub.

Alan Browne, Greg Cunningham and Eoin Doyle all started, as Preston beat Charlton 3-0 to move up to 17th in the table.

Sean Scannell featured as Huddersfield won 2-0 at home to MK Dons, who had Samir Carruthers in their side.

Stephen Ward and Kevin Long were both unused subs, as Burnley grabbed a late 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest.

Keiren Westwood kept a clean sheet, as Sheffield Wednesday drew 0-0 away at QPR.

Paul McShane featured for Reading as they drew 1-1 with Rotherham, slipping out of the automatic promotion spots as a result, while the hosts had Paul Green in their side.

Meanwhile, Stephen Gleeson played the full 90 minutes, as Birmingham beat Bolton 1-0 to go up to second.

Finally, three games take place tonight, with Blackburn playing Derby, Fulham hosting Leeds and Brentford travelling to Wolves.
