David Silva: Man City players enjoy Guardiola's 'intense' training sessions

The Spanish attacker says his side are happy with life on the training field.

DAVID SILVA SAYS Manchester City players enjoy the “intense” games during Pep Guardiola’s training regime.

Guardiola has come under criticism this season as his side sit 12 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea after 22 games, most recently drawing 2-2 with Tottenham.

While results may not be going their way at times, Silva has revealed that the squad are happy with life on the training field.

“If we’ve got more days available to just train, they usually are much tougher but otherwise it’s more about recuperating,” he told Dugout. ”So it does just depend upon how many days we have available to train.

“When we break into a small game at the end of the sessions, that’s what we all like. Short games, full of intensity are what the players usually like best.

“You just have to focus on that next game and recuperate well so you can win the next one.”

Silva, who has been utilised in the centre and on the left wing for City this season, said playing through the middle that comes more naturally to him.

“I try to play the ball quickly between the lines which is a style of play I have to adapt in my particular position.

“I try to improve that aspect of my game and instantly pick out players further up the pitch than me like the wide men and the strikers. That’s how I always try to play.

“I think that by playing centre midfield in the middle of the park I’m doing something which comes naturally to me. One of the things I did well as a young kid was to link well with the rest of the team so I reckon it’s something which is natural for me.”

In 20 games in the Premier League for City this season, 31-year-old Silva has scored one goal and set up a further four.

According to Opta’s stats, Kevin De Bruyne is the only player in the team to have created more chances than Silva, with the Belgian making 65 chances to the Spaniard’s 44.
