Doyle out of Slovakia match

Blow to Ireland’s hopes of a win in Zilina as key player Doyle picks up knee injury.

KEVIN DOYLE HAS left the Ireland training camp after he picked up a knee injury which will rule him out of Ireland’s crucial European Championships qualifier against Slovakia on Tuesday.

The Football Association of Ireland confirmed that Doyle will return to his club for treatment and also stated that they will not call up a replacement- leaving the travelling squad at 21.

After Ireland’s 3-2 loss to Russia on Friday, manager Giovani Trappattoni said of the Wolves striker:

“Doyle and Keane complete each other. At this moment we could not play without Doyle and Keane. We can also play Shane Long in this position, he is fresh, but we couldn’t change the team to another system. If we had other players, that is the question.”
