GEOFFREY NDUNGU OF Kenya has claimed first place of the Dublin City Marathon for the second year in a row.
After setting a course record in last year’s race, Ndungu finished outside the time by under three minutes, recording a time of 2 hours 11 minutes and 9 seconds.
His fellow Kenyan, Magdalene Mukunzi, took the women’s race in a time of 2: 30.46, four minutes outside the Dublin record.
Paul Pollock had led the race through the midway stages and he was the first Irishman through the finish line at Merrion Square in 2:16.30, just 80 seconds clear of Sean O’Hehir.
The Irish women’s charge was led home by Maria McCambridge with a time of 2:35.28 followed by Raheny Shamrocks’ Barbara Sanchez.
Wales’ Luke Jones took the honours in the wheelchair section, crossing the line after just 2:03.49.
A record 14,300 people registered for today’s marathon which set off at 9am and the majority of the runners are still to complete the course.
