DUNDALK ARE €120,000 richer after securing a historic first-ever point in the Europa League group stages following a 1-1 draw with AZ Alkmaar this evening.
A positive result had looked unlikely for the League of Ireland side at one point in the evening, after Stijn Wuytens opened the scoring for the hosts, before Stephen O’Donnell was sent off having received a second booking for a rash challenge on Ridgeciano Haps.
Nevertheless, Ciaran Kilduff’s late header secured Dundalk a late point, and helped them earn a substantial cash boost in the process, as €120,000 is automatically awarded for a drawn match in the competition (and €360,000 is awarded for a win).
