'Liverpool have a great chance' - Dunphy backs Reds to win the Premier League

Dunphy claims it will be between Jürgen Klopp’s side and the Manchester clubs for the title.

RTÉ PUNDIT EAMON Dunphy believes Liverpool have a realistic hope of winning the Premier League title this season.

Last Sunday’s win over Swansea brought the Reds to within six points of Manchester City, who currently sit top of the table.

And while Dunphy has written off second-placed Leicester City, Arsenal and Tottenham as title contenders, he insists Jürgen Klopp’s men can challenge the two Manchester clubs if a couple of things go their way.

“I think Liverpool have a great chance,” Dunphy said on 2fm’s Game On last night. “If they give him (Klopp) two players in the transfer window, if he gets a couple of the lads who are injured back into the side and Sturridge gets fit.

Liverpool are six points behind and if I look at the five teams ahead of them. Leicester; no chance, Arsenal; zero chance, Tottenham; no chance – that leaves the two Manchester clubs.

“Manchester City were lucky in a way to beat Southampton. Southampton played really well and they had chance to equalise, and in the end City won 3-1.

“Manchester United may well win the league but it would be the death of football.”
