Clubs on high alert after Edinson Cavani's touchline spat with Laurent Blanc

Paris St-Germain beat Marseille 3-2 in a thrilling Le Classique last night to return to the top of the Ligue Un table.

PARIS ST-GERMAIN are back at the summit of the Ligue Un table after a 3-2 win over arch-rivals Marseille at the Stade Velodrome last night.

In what proved a thriller, the home side took the lead when Dimitri Payet expertly picked out the head of Andre-Pierre Gignac  who steered his header beyond Salvatore Sirigu.

But the guests responded just five minutes later through Blaise Matuidi before Gignac put OM back in front moments before the break.

The second period belonged to PSG though and Marquinhos equalised just four minutes after the restart. Shortly after, Jeremy Morel put through his own net to put the Parisians in front for the first time in the game – a position they never relinquished.

There was some added drama close to the hour mark when PSG coach Laurent Blanc decided to withdraw Uruguayan attacker Edinson Cavani and replace him with Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Cavani, who has managed 8 goals in 23 league appearances this term, was far from happy and the pair engaged in a less-than-subtle touchline argument.

Afterwards, Cavani spoke to Canal Plus and revealed that his frustrations stem from being played out of position.

“The only concern that I have ever spoken about is that I was recruited to play as a striker with Ibrahimovic and it has not always been the case.

“There is a long series of games where I have not scored in Ligue 1 but that can happen. In France, people judge me as a lone striker, but I do not play in that position.

“But aside from that, everything else is perfect here.”

Cavani has repeatedly been linked with a move away from the club and angered Blanc back in January when he returned late from international duty. The 28 year-old was fined and dropped for two games as a result.
