IT TOOK RAFA Nadal just over one hour to clinch his eighth consecutive Monte Carlo Masters win as he swept Novak Djokovic aside.

The second-ranked Spaniard dominated Djokovic from start to finish, running out a 6-3 6-1 victor in one hour and 18 minutes.

Nadal broke a run of seven losses against Djokovic with the result, which should see the 10-time Grand Slam champion take over the favourite’s tag coming into next month’s French Open.

The title was his 20th of the Masters variety, going one ahead of Roger Federer’s tally, and career title 47 on the ATP Tour overall, while also being his first since winning at Roland Garros last year.

Nadal went through the tournament in Monte Carlo without dropping a set.

He was in control throughout the final, breaking twice in the first set before storming to a 4-0 lead in the second.

Djokovic pulled a game back with a break of serve, but Nadal was unstoppable on his preferred clay, as he continued his dominance of the tournament which spans back to his first win at the event in 2005.
