A TOGOLESE TEAM which played a friendly against Bahrain last week, purporting to be the national side, weren’t actually the national team.
Reports in L’Equipe say that Bahrain, who won 3-0, organised the match with a mysterious unkown Togolese football agent. The Togolese Football Federation have said that the players who played against Bahrain weren’t even from Togo.
“The very bad game of the ‘Togolese’ players surprised us, but then to discover that we had been dealing with a fake team was incredible,” said a member of the Bahraini Football Association. Bahrain are preparing for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup in Qatar.
Togo’s Sports Minister Christophe Tchao told Jeune Afrique that nobody back home was aware of the encounter. “We will conduct investigations to uncover all those involved in this case,” he said.
