Managers to be given yellow and red cards under new FA rules

The governing body has revealed a new set of disciplinary rules that will be implemented in the 2018-19 English football season.

MANAGERS WORKING IN English football will be shown yellow and red cards in a revamp of disciplinary rules revealed by the FA.

Any activity in the technical area “considered to be irresponsible” by the match referee will see coaches given a stage-one warning.

In competitions including the FA Cup and the English Football League, match officials will be able to show cards to managers, however the FA said this will not be the case in the Premier League.

Managers who accumulate four stage-one warnings will be given a one-match ban, with a two-match suspension for those who receive eight.

Anyone who reaches 12 stage-one warnings will be banned for three games and a misconduct charge will be levied against individuals with 16 warnings.

The FA also confirmed the 2018-19 season will see the introduction of competition-specific suspensions for tournaments including the Premier League.

Players will therefore only miss Premier League matches, not cup fixtures, should they reach five, 10 or 15 bookings in the competition.
