Finn Harps edge Bohs in typical end-of-season affair

The parading Kevin McHugh at half-time brought the loudest cheer of the night at Finn Park.

Finn Harps 1-0 Bohemians

RYAN CURRAN’S GOAL in the last minute of the first half meant a winning conclusion to the season for Finn Harps against Bohemians tonight.

The former Derry City striker turned onto a square ball on the angle of the penalty area and shot into Dean Delaney’s top corner from 20 yards.

With Harps already assured of survival, there was an end-of-season feel in Ballybofey with Curran’s goal — his seventh of the campaign — the only real standout in the opening 45 minutes.

After the break there were more points of notoriety, with Mark Quigley narrowly shooting over twice; the second of which was an inventive volley from a cross by Keith Buckley.

Four minutes from time, substitute Dean Casey crossed for Quigley, who got a delicate touch to head towards goal only for Brush to produce a fingertip save, with the ball hitting the base of the post before coming back into the hands of the grateful goalkeeper.

On another otherwise low-key affair, the parading Kevin McHugh at half-time brought the loudest cheer of the night at Finn Park as the striker waved farewell to the supporters of the team he first lined out for in August 1998.

McHugh’s 438 appearances — and 186 goals — for the Donegal side brought the crowd to its feet when he was introduced at half-time. He was denied a swansong having severed a finger earlier this month.

Dave Scully almost added a second for the home team but was out of luck against his former employers as Delany saved late on.
