First Lieutenant is a NON-RUNNER in today's Cheltenham Gold Cup

Michael O’Leary’s fortunes will rest solely on the Philip Fenton-trained Last Instalment this afternoon.

FIRST LIEUTENANT, ONE of two Michael O’Leary horses declared for this afternoon’s Cheltenham Gold Cup, has been withdrawn.

The 10/1 shot was due to go off as fourth favourite for the blue riband showpiece on the fourth and final day of the festival.

But he was declared a non-runner this morning and is reported to have “not eaten up.”

O’Leary’s fortunes now rest on Last Instalment (7/1) who will fly the flag alone for Gigginstown House Stud.

The nine-year-old was confirmed to run this morning despite concerns that the good going would not suit him.

The Gold Cup goes to post at 3.20pm this afternoon with defending champion Bobs Worth the 6/4 favourite ahead of 3/1 chance Silviniaco Conti.
