Five things we learned this weekend

We’ve taken some tough lessons from the past few days of sport. But we’ve forgotten them so here’s a handful of makey-uppy ones.

1. It is actually possible to hate Ronaldo even more

C-Ron’s Russian girlfriend Irina Shayk, right, was earlier annouced as this year’s Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition cover girl.

Shayk has been dating the Portuguese wink-merchant since 2010. Ronaldo has yet to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated.

2. But then there is only one Ronaldo now

‘Real/Fat Ronaldo’ hung up his well-worn boots this weekend. He scored over 400 goals for club and country, spending successful stints with Cruzeiro, PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and AC Milan.

We asked you for some of your memories, this seemed to come out on top. Not bad.

3. You get an iPod if you’re picked by the British and Irish Lions

Stephen Ferris tweeted the following, “Look what I stumbled across today. Awesome”. I wonder what happened to Quinny’s one?

4. Rory Mc is losing the run of himself.

Inveterate tweeter and top golfer Rory McIlroy immediately labelled his fellow Ulsterman a ‘show-off’ for bragging about his found MP3 player.

This is the same newly-single dude who earlier published this pic of his wheels.

He wrote: “Just to clarify I’ve had the R8 for a few months, just got a new finish put on it while I was away in Dubai. Valentines present to myself!”

5. Dreams really do come true

Deadspin earlier published a story that should be made into a movie. I can hear the voiceover now: “In a world where two men are locked into a stadium…”

One of the Baltimore Orioles fans writes: “After about 30 minutes, we realized that we were the only fans left in the stadium. After about an hour, we realized that we were the only people left in the ballpark. Immediately we realized that the ballpark was our playground. With a decent amount of liquid courage running though our bloodstreams we decided to leave our comfortable seats under the outfield canopy and go exploring.”
